The Wallflower

My mind’s made up, I’m going to build a wall, flower

Of course, dear

So beautiful and more than ten feet tall, flower

Indeed, dear

Old Hadrian showed the way to act

A wall across that barren tract

Because he couldn’t trust the Scots at all, flower

Right, dear

Approaching some two thousand miles in length

My wall will show security and strength

Like Berlin’s wall in days long past

It earns respect but mine will last

Around the world they’ll know it as The Wall, flower

Yes, dear

November 2018

This is my submission to the Oldie Competition in its December 2018 edition. I'll let you decide who the speakers are in the poem.
